Urban I initiative

URBAN Community initiative programmes aim to find solutions to problems of declined urban regions. The programmes apply an integrated approach, i.e. projects relating to the social environment and economy are financed at the same time. During the previous structural fund period two URBAN programmes were implemented in Finland: one in the town of Joensuu (1995-1999), and the other as a joint programme in Helsinki and Vantaa (1997-1999). During the current structural fund period (2000-2006) Finland has one URBAN programme, a new joint programme of Helsinki and Vantaa.
